The drum off applies to actually playing the drums and composing a solo, opposed to bullshit "sports" competition style things such as the WFD.

Music is NOT a sport, and I agree with you when it refers to the WFD, but not at all about the Guitar Center Drum-Off.

Get your facts straight dude.

I have to say something. First off, you have some decent chops. Second, you have absolutly no tact in dealing with people when their opinions differ from yours. You claim it's cause they don't understand.
The thing I don't understand is why you are responding nicely to people who like you and so negatively to people who slam you.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.
2 Kill them with kindness.
these are two ways to deal with these people who are pissing you off. The way you are dealing with it is just making it worse.
I think these are the most constructive critcisms you should take to heart, and yes, they have a lot to do with drumming. As drumming is your life, creating a nice atmosphere around you is important. It's all how you deal with people.

Aside from that, your solo was cool. It wasn't perfect, but who is. I'm not gonna pick it apart. I know you already have.

The only thing you need to work on is your social skills. As far as your drumming, you just need some more seasoning.

Nevesis, you posted this clip of yourself anf you invited a responce form all the people on this board, me being one of them. I gave my opinions and you slammed me. Why? If you can't take constructive critisism then don't bother posting clips of yourself playing - it's simple. Not all people who see this are going to like what they see.

By the way, I wasn't judging you personally, I was giving my opinion on these so called compettions and the way they call for such a non musical way of playing in order to get a first prize. Reread the post. For what it's worth you have a ferocious technique and couldn't get anyway near it: your hands are fantastic, but that doesn't justify entering a drumming competiton that has nothing to do with music.

No need to get personal mate - aren't I entitled to give my opinions and respond to your post?

nevesis, for what it was IMO, your solo was great - but just because someone else does not agree with that dosen't mean you need to insult and threaten them. You are 23, not 13. Are you here to make friends or enemies? You have to accept the fact that not everyone will have the same opinions or take your side. Naturally there will be those who oppose or who happen to have a different opinion. You don't need to agree with it, but you do need to accept it and calm down.

I have an idea:

Post some mp3s of you playing in a musical setting (non-solo) and it might just impress some people who are not into the whole "chops"/"contest" thing and get em off your back.

The best way to deal w consrtructive [or otherwise] criticism is to thank the person for the advice/critique, & if it 'rubbed you wrong,' politely ask them to use a diff tone in their presentation...but, rem, you ask for critique, you may in fact get it. And not necess in the way that you might prefer. It's theoretically "setting-yourself-up" anyway, so be ready just in case. ;c)

And to the 'critiquers,' remember: there are guys who come in here & may be younger than some of the more seasoned vets in here, & how you say something to them means a lot...it's not WHAT you say, as you shouldnt be swayed from that], it's HOW it comes across. Kid Gloves needed everywhere...NOT 'sugar-coated,' just simply, 'kid gloves.'

Certain forms of structured competitons have their place. But as to the deeper things, it is very miniscule at best. I wouldve said that, by the nature of his posting, a guy like nev was prob in his early or perhaps mid 20s & eager to find a place for himself in the drumg community. No harm there. Take it easy on him, but still help 'inform' & guide him so he will grow; but...likewise, don't take offense when someone gives you a bold remark. Rather, again, thank them & maybe politely ask that they not bring their entire batting rack to the next session...ESP those fatter or aluminum ones... [img]wink.gif[/img]

If you order up the pasta in the restaraunt, dont be surprised by the 'garlic'...
